Youth from across New York State, including the Southern Tier, took part in the first "Seen Enough Tobacco Day" in October to learn how to protect themselves and other children from the billions of dollars of tobacco promotions in places where they and other youth can see and be influenced by them.

(January 25, 2017) - The American Lung Association’s “State of Tobacco Control” report has found that in 2016 New York failed to do enough to implement proven-effective policies that would save lives. The 15th annual report grades states and the federal government on policies to prevent and reduce tobacco use.

The local tobacco awareness group Southern Tier Tobacco Awareness Coalition, or STTAC, is trying to make an impact on the way Hollywood makes movies. Their goal is to get tobacco out of any movie not rated R. According to the Surgeon General one change to the movie rating system could save a million young lives, by taking tobacco imagery out of youth rated films.
