WATKINS GLEN -- Schuyler County office building properties are now smoke-free, but Monday night's vote to enact the ban was not unanimous. "This is an imposition on our employees who have a short break and are addicted to cigarettes," Legislator Glenn Larison, R-Odessa, said. Before Monday's action, smoking was prohibited within 50 feet of the doors at the County Office Building and Mill Creek Center in Watkins Glen and at the Human Services Complex in Montour Falls. The county's Seneca Harbor Park is not affected. Larison and Legislator Philip Barnes, R-Watkins Glen, who proposed the property-wide ban, both agreed that the 50-feet rule is not being enforced. Larison, however, said the expanded prohibition will not be enforced, either. Barnes disagreed.Tobacco.org
