  • Tobacco advertising is most commonly found in convenience stores-- where 75% of teens shop every week.

  • The average number of interior and exterior advertisements per store in: Chemung-32.2, Schuyler-21.8, Steuben-21.9.

  • Teens are more likely to be influenced to smoke by cigarette advertising than by peer pressure.  

  • Each day, about 3,500 kids in the United States try their first cigarette.

  • Tobacco companies spend more than $13 billion a year on retail advertising and promotion.



    STTAC is asking local tobacco retailers 
    to
    reduce, rearrange, or remove tobacco advertising in and around their stores.

Information for Retailers.

As a retailer you play a vital role in protecting our youth from tobacco use.

Youth are more likely than adults to notice and remember tobacco advertising. Tobacco advertising makes youth think that tobacco products are easy to buy.  By reducing tobacco ads, youth will be less likely to try to buy tobacco at your store.

  • Remove all outside tobacco advertisements
  • Reduce the number of outside tobacco advertisements
  • Remove all inside tobacco advertisements
  • Reduce the number of inside tobacco advertisements
  • Rearrange inside tobacco advertisements
  • Remove all tobacco advertisements
